Have you looked in the mirror recently? Was the person looking back at you the person you used to be or are you not sure who is starring back at you. Sometimes during the course of life we allow ourselves to become what society says we ought to be. Society and it's norms should not be how we define ourselves. God has made each one of us to be unqiuely different and special in our own right. When we take the time to examine ourselves we may be surprised how much of the real us is gone. Physically we disfigured ourselves or made ourselves sick trying to measure up to how society says we ought to look or be. Who I Be is personal. It is time that we focus on who and how God intended for us to be. We were fearfully and wonderfully made and we should find satisfaction in being made in God's image and not who or what society says we should be. Our physical, emotional, mental, and financial status does not make us. Who I Be is about the person who can be themselves and not be stressed or anixous about becoming another product of circumstances or norms to be wholly.

For someone who doesn't normally consider themselves an outwardly spiritual person, this was an ideal book. I have often struggled in my faith, and instead of turning toward a sense of spirituality that so often frustrates and disappoints, I look for other manifestations of grace in my life. This book is on that exact same level, and after having it recommended to me by a friend who said that it truly helped her find a new perspective on life, belief, success, and hardship, I guessed that I would do well to read it. I am thoroughly glad that I did, because Brown's words resonated vividly in my mind with every page.

I particularly liked how subtle and suggestive she was, without the typical heavy-handed fire and brimstone type of religious advice that some people favor. She related stories of her own life for the reader, often baring her soul for our benefit. I appreciated her candor and her honesty, not to mention the incredible insights that she often made into the complexity of belief and ancient faith in a modern world. If you have any friends or family that have a delicate or uncertain relationship with their own spirituality, then this book might help them come to terms with the two and balance their complicated thoughts. A definite top pick this month!

Who I Be Annie Brown 9781432795139 Books Reviews

There is not much better than a short book that packs an amazing punch. Add true Biblical theology and Christian living to this, and you have the perfect little book. This is my first encounter with author Annie Brown, but I doubt it will be the last. She does not waffle on and on as some "Christian" authors do. She gets to the point, and she calls it what it is.

I don't usually quote a book in my reviews, but this really struck me. My dad is a diabetic, but Annie Brown says that this is not the way you should speak of your health issues. He is not a diabetic, but he has diabetes. If you think about it, that is quite a difference in concepts. When you call yourself a diabetic, then you can blame everything on that (and my dad takes great delectation in doing just that). When you, however, say you have diabetes, the disease no longer defines you. And how does that relate to our Christian walk? We are not sinners, but we sin! That's right! I don't remember if that is what she said, but I was able to make the correlation with no problem.

If you wish to read a book that will challenge some of your traditional Christian/church beliefs, this is the book for you. It is that the author has an amazing testimony and true spiritual insight. I highly recommend this book.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
This book really make you look at yourself in a whole new light. I really saw myself in it and the things I was doing to try and fit in. I have to learn to love me the way I am and not the way I think I should be. So inspiring!!
THIS BOOK WAS WRITTEN VERY WELL WITH GREAT UNDERSTANDING TO THE MEANING OF WHO I REALLY BE? IT MAKES YOU THINK ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS THAT HAS HAPPEN IN YOUR LIFE AND IT ALSO LET YOU KNOW YOU CAN MAKE IT THROUGH ANY STORMS
I had the pleasure of reading Annie Brown's Who I be, and I absolutely loved it. Growing up in today's society, it can be so easy to fall into the pressures around us and change who we are to better fit in or feel accepted. Who I Be allowed me to look back and acknowledge situations in life where my choices may have been made to better fit in or be accepted, rather than be from my heart. Annie does a wonderful job of writing this book on a very personal level, allowing you to relate to her not just a writer, but as a friend providing guidance to help you feel content with who you are in this moment in life. Annie helped me feel comfortable being who I am and understanding that everyone is unique and should feel confident with who they are, rather than try to change ourselves to fit into a social norm. It is such a challenge to be faced with so many pressures in life, whether they be financial, social, emotional, or physical, but feeling good with Who I Be is empowering and necessary to live my life to the fullest.

I strongly recommend this book, and am thankful to have been able to read it! I feel that any reader, regardless of religious background, would benefit from reading Who I Be. Thank you, Annie, for sharing your guidance and knowledge.
I certainly wasn't expecting this to be as moving or thought-provoking as it turned out to be. I have had a somewhat mixed relationship with my faith in recent years, and I have turned in a number of directions. I have spoken to non-religious friends, devoutly religious family members, and even members of the clergy. I haven't found the sort of advice or wisdom that I could really use or apply in my life, which has led to a decent amount of frustration. I feel like Brown didn't preach or condescend about the right way and the wrong way to approach certain moments in life. Instead, she urged people to follow their heart, recognize the fact that every individual is different, and dismissed the idea of absolutes that can be applied to everyone. I know that as a unique individual, the challenges I face and the uncertainty I experience is difficult for anyone else to understand. In those moments, turning to a more spiritual solution feels natural, but I am out of practice. Annie Brown reminded me of the simple ways that we can connect to a higher power when we most need the advice. She writes from the heart, with sincerity and candor that is helpful, respectful, and trustworthy.
